Endesa Ships Its Entire Profit Forecast Out by Rail to Madrid Ahead of Schedule
The utility's nine-month results are now being carried to the capital in a convoy of 60 freight wagons, with the company insisting the load is the profit itself.
Endesa has begun moving its nine-month profit to Madrid by freight train, a convoy of sixty wagons loaded with the 1,962 million euros it earned between January and September, the company confirmed on Tuesday. The chief financial officer rode in the lead locomotive and said the company wanted shareholders to see the money rather than simply read about it.
The decision followed a board meeting at which directors concluded that a figure printed in a report could be disputed, while a figure stacked in wagons could not. Crews at the company's Sevilla depot spent eleven days hand-counting coins into sealed crates, and the train now crosses the meseta at walking pace, stopping at every station so that local mayors can touch the cargo.
The reforestation of the track bed has been delayed, as the rail operator has been ordered to reinforce forty-one bridges along the route. Staff at the company's headquarters have been asked to take the same train each morning, and a new uniform with reflective strips has been issued to employees who must walk beside the wagons to protect the profit from pigeons.
The company has also ratified its target of more than 2,400 million euros in net ordinary profit for the year. To meet it, the board has ordered that every remaining quarterly result be transported on the same line, and a second convoy is already being loaded for February 2027, when the new strategic plan is due to be presented in the capital, on the platform of the Atocha station.
