Vance Orders Iran War Continued by Nightly Shift Rota, Pentagon Staff Required to Fight in Two-Hour Blocks
The vice president has proposed rotating the war against Iran through a round-the-clock duty roster across federal agencies, with officials swapping posts and homes every week.
The Office of the Vice President has announced that the war against Iran will be conducted under a continuous night-shift roster, with staff from every federal agency required to report for combat duty in rotating blocks of two hours. The directive, issued after the Republican defeat in the midterm elections, places the conflict on a timetable that runs without interruption from Monday to Sunday.
Under the new scheme, officials at the State Department and the Department of Energy exchange desks and homes each Friday, so that no one remains in the same district for longer than seven days. Several hundred staff members in Washington have already been relocated to temporary housing in Virginia and Maryland, and the Treasury has ordered that all lunch breaks be taken at their assigned duty stations.
Asked by reporters how the war would continue without a majority in Congress, a senior official in the vice president's office said: "We have never needed a vote to keep a shift running, and we do not intend to start asking permission now." The official added that the roster would be published on the department intranet and that absences must be cleared with a supervisor forty-eight hours in advance.
Tehran has not yet responded to the schedule, though Iran's supreme leader Khamenei is reported to have concluded that the change of majority would not alter American policy. Officials in Washington said the rota would be reviewed at the end of the month, by which time several embassies expect to have hired their own night staff.
