Poland Builds 1,200-Kilometre Human Shield Around Tusk, One Volunteer Per Metre, No One Allowed to Blink
Following credible threats against the prime minister, Poland has deployed a continuous chain of hand-holding citizens along every road to Warsaw, with a strict no-blinking protocol and a live broadcast that will not end until further notice.
WARSAW — Polish authorities have completed the construction of a continuous human chain stretching 1,200 kilometres around the prime minister's residence, with one volunteer standing every metre and a strict order not to blink until the threat level drops below «highly credible».
The Interior Ministry confirmed that the shield, assembled in under nine hours, includes a second inner ring of retired soldiers holding hands and a third ring of civil servants who have been instructed to hum the national anthem in shifts. «We take the question very seriously,» said intelligence spokesman Jacek Dobrzynski. «There is a high probability that these threats will be met with a wall of Poles who have not slept since Tuesday.»
The operation has swallowed the town of Raszyn, where the local football pitch now serves as a dormitory for shield volunteers and the mayor has been reassigned to coordinate soup deliveries every forty minutes. Schools have cancelled lessons so that children can practise standing still for six-hour stretches, and the national railway has rerouted all trains to avoid interrupting the chain.
A live broadcast from the residence has been running since dawn, showing the prime minister working at his desk while a producer counts the volunteers aloud. The broadcast will not end, officials said, until every citizen has taken a turn or the threat is formally downgraded to «moderately credible».
