Israeli Forces Launch Overnight Raid on Gaza City, Detain Every Doorbell in the Strip

In a dramatic escalation of its security operations, the Israeli military has begun confiscating all doorbells in Gaza City, citing the need to prevent surprise visitors. The operation, dubbed "Operation Silent Threshold," saw troops move house-to-house on Tuesday, removing every doorbell, buzzer, and knocker within the city limits.

"We cannot allow the element of surprise to be used against our forces," said Lieutenant Colonel Avi Mizrahi, who is overseeing the collection. "Every doorbell is a potential early-warning system for our adversaries. We are simply removing the advantage."

The military has established a central repository in a former warehouse near the border, where thousands of doorbells, ranging from simple mechanical chimes to elaborate video intercoms, are being cataloged and stored. Residents have been instructed to announce their presence by shouting through closed doors, a practice that has already led to a spike in vocal cord injuries and misunderstandings.

"I came home from work and pressed the button out of habit," said a local baker, who asked not to be named. "Next thing I know, a soldier is asking me why I am trying to alert the enemy. I just wanted to tell my wife I was home."

The operation is set to expand to neighboring areas next week, with military spokespeople confirming that they are also considering the removal of all door hinges to ensure that no entry goes unannounced. "We are committed to a thorough and secure environment," Mizrahi added. "If that means every resident must knock in a specific rhythm, so be it."
