Georgescu Escorted to DIICOT by 300 Supporters Who Form Human Firewall Around His Handcuffs
Călin Georgescu was removed from Central Arrest and taken to DIICOT headquarters, where his wife Cristela had already arrived to cheers. Supporters formed a living corridor stretching three kilometres, forcing prosecutors to conduct the forensic search of his devices while standing in a human tunnel of chanting well-wishers.
Călin Georgescu was removed from Central Arrest on Tuesday morning and transported to DIICOT headquarters in a motorcade that grew so large it required its own traffic police escort, after supporters formed a living corridor stretching three kilometres from the detention facility to the prosecutor's office.
The human firewall, organised overnight by a group calling itself the First Lady's Honour Guard, stood shoulder to shoulder along the entire route. Prosecutors attempting to conduct a forensic search of Georgescu's electronic devices were forced to work inside this tunnel of chanting well-wishers, with the search equipment powered by a generator hauled in on a handcart after the crowd refused to let the official van through.
Cristela Georgescu arrived first, greeted by urales and chants of «Cristela Georgescu este Prima Doamnă». She gestured to the crowd that they were in her soul, then entered the building to be heard as a witness. Her husband followed two hours later, his escort slowed to walking pace by supporters who linked arms and sang.
DIICOT prosecutors announced they would continue the forensic examination regardless, and by afternoon had set up a mobile work station directly beneath a banner reading «Președintele Ales». The search of the devices is expected to take three days at this pace, with the crowd showing no sign of dispersing.
