Flavio Bolsonaro Escapes Brazil by Foot Across Forty Kilometres of Argentine Border Mud, Accompanied by a Mossad Trainer Who Insisted on Carrying the Map
A former Mossad officer reportedly trained the Brazilian senator for a months-long border crossing, and the operation has since reshaped the routines of a provincial Argentine town.
A former Mossad officer spent eleven weeks teaching Senator Flavio Bolsonaro to walk the Brazilian frontier at a pace the security services describe as unnatural, and the senator now crosses every morning from his office to his car on a route of exactly four hundred metres, marked in white paint on the parliamentary corridor floor.
The instructor, who asked to be identified only as a retired field trainer, confirmed the programme in a statement delivered from a folding chair at a hotel in Posadas. «We covered the terrain in full, in every weather, with no rest days and no roads,» he said. «He learned to sleep standing up. He can now recognise a tripwire by its sound.» Argentine border towns have since reported a sharp rise in private walking tours, and the municipal council of Puerto Iguazú has begun issuing printed maps to residents who wish to avoid the new training routes.
Officials in Brasília said the senator remained in regular contact with Buenos Aires during the preparations, and that several influential figures in Argentina and the United States offered logistical help before the second round of the presidential election. The senator's office did not respond to questions about whether the rehearsals included a dry run across a lake.
Local residents in the frontier province say the operation has changed the rhythm of the town: the bakery opens an hour earlier to serve the trainees, the bus timetable has been redrawn around the nightly exercises, and a cafe owner has renamed her croissants after the checkpoints the group practised passing. The provincial government has promised a review, scheduled for a date that will be announced once a suitable mountain can be secured.
