Manchester United Stage Open Trials for Their Entire Coaching Staff Inside the Old Trafford Pitch
Club officials have announced that every member of the coaching staff will sit a public driving test on the Old Trafford pitch before the next fixture.
Manchester United have confirmed that the entire first-team coaching staff will take a public driving test on the Old Trafford pitch before the next home fixture, with cones laid out across the penalty areas and the centre circle reserved for reverse parking.
The club's director of football operations said the decision followed a review of the coaching department's approach to decision-making. «We asked each member of staff to explain their rotations on a whiteboard, and we concluded that the cars parked outside the Carrington training ground were a more reliable indicator of how the team will travel forward,» he said. The test will be administered by a licensed examiner flown in from Stockport, and staff who fail will be required to complete a second session on the Carrington access road.
Assistant coaches have been issued high-visibility tabards and a laminated timetable covering lessons on mirror checks, hill starts and the correct use of indicators. Several staff members have already begun carrying a clipboard during warm-ups, and one first-team physio was seen practising a three-point turn between the dugouts on Tuesday morning. Stewards at the south stand have been instructed to wave motorists through the tunnel, and the club's commercial team has priced a branded learner plate at a discount for season ticket holders.
Supporters have been asked to remain seated during the reverse-parking segment, which the club says will last approximately ninety minutes and will be broadcast on the stadium screens. The club confirmed that a further round of tests will be held after the international break for any staff member who has failed to indicate on the approach to the penalty box.
