Toronto Museum Renames All Exhibits After Maple Leafs Players, Forces Curator to Wear Jersey at All Times

In a move that has stunned the international museum community, the Royal Ontario Museum has renamed every permanent gallery after a member of the 1992-93 Toronto Maple Leafs roster and ordered its Swedish-born curator to remain in full hockey equipment during all working hours.

TORONTO — The Royal Ontario Museum reopened its doors Monday with every permanent gallery renamed after a member of the 1992-93 Toronto Maple Leafs roster, and a new policy requiring all curatorial staff to wear full hockey equipment during working hours.

The Egyptian exhibit, formerly the museum's crown jewel, is now the Doug Gilmour Gallery of Ancient Egypt. The dinosaur wing has been rechristened the Wendel Clark Cretaceous Collection. Visitors seeking the Greek antiquities are directed to the Dave Andreychuk Hall of Classical Civilisation, where a bronze bust of the winger now stands beside a first-century amphora.

«We felt the museum had drifted from the values that built this city,» said interim director Marjorie Tinsley, speaking from a podium flanked by two ushers in vintage Leafs sweaters. «Georgie Law taught us that history is not about dates. It is about the 1993 playoff run. We are simply aligning our institutional identity with that truth.»

Curator Oliver Jönsson, a Swedish-born Oxford graduate who arrived in Toronto on a one-year contract, has been ordered to remain in full goaltender padding for the duration of his employment. He must also recite the Leafs' 1992-93 regular-season record before unlocking any storage room.

«I came here to study Middle Kingdom funerary practices,» Jönsson said, adjusting his blocker. «Now I spend my mornings explaining why the power play failed in Game Seven. I have stopped correcting people.»

School groups are now required to sing the national anthem twice before entering, and the museum's cafeteria has replaced all cutlery with miniature hockey sticks. The new curriculum, designed to impress the school principal, includes a unit on ancient Egyptian embalming techniques compared side-by-side with the Leafs' penalty-killing strategy.

By Thursday, the gift shop had sold out of mummified hot dogs wrapped in team-coloured bandages.
