Soulslike Game Where You Play as a Sword-Wielding Dog Goes Viral Because, Well, You're a Sword-Wielding Dog
An upcoming Soulslike game where players control a sword-wielding dog rescuing its captured knight master has gone viral, drawing massive wishlists and developer gratitude.
The upcoming Soulslike game Stray Dog: nobody cares has taken the internet by storm, and the reason is as simple as it is absurd: players get to be a dog with a sword in its mouth. The game, developed by the small team at Parry Frames Studio, has exploded across social media, with countless players pledging to wishlist it despite its as-yet-unannounced release date.
In Stray Dog: nobody cares, players control a stray dog raised from birth by a disgraced knight. According to the game's Steam page, this knight once fought gloriously for an unnamed legion but was slandered and cast aside after uncovering the legion's dark secrets. Now an outcast, he travels the kingdom with only his loyal hound, teaching the animal to survive the dangers of the road. The story takes a tragic turn when the knight is suddenly captured, forcing the pup to brave the treacherous border fief of Greythorn and the tyrannical legion that has invaded it. Armed only with its wits and the sword it clenches in its jaws, the dog must fight through hordes of enemies to rescue its master.
The game promises a full suite of familiar Soulslike mechanics, including parrying, stealth kills, backstabs, and a fatal death blow. Its Steam page touts multiple combat arts, custom levels, brutal boss fights, and exploration of the standard dark and gloomy medieval environments that define the genre. Screenshots and gameplay footage have spread rapidly across X and other platforms, earning praise and countless comments from eager players.
The viral attention has surprised even the developers. In a statement on Steam, Parry Frames Studio expressed gratitude for the sudden surge of interest. The team, which describes itself as a small group passionate about Souls games, self-taught Unreal Engine and last year received a Megagrant from Epic Games, which helped them release their first game, Crimson Oath. The statement assures fans that the team includes professionals in battle design, game programming, game art, and level design, and that they have sufficient technical capabilities to deliver on the game's promise.
While the release date remains unknown, one thing is clear: the game's title may need a change. Despite the name Stray Dog: nobody cares, it appears a great many people care very much indeed.
